A European city break that continues after dark

Vicenza combines a UNESCO Renaissance city with one of Italy’s most important astronomical landscapes. On the Asiago Plateau, the INAF observatory at Cima Ekar operates the 1.82-metre Copernico, the largest optical telescope on Italian soil. Around it are public astronomy programmes, mountain stargazing, winter telescope nights and an 8 km scale model of the Solar System. Further south, the Berici Hills add vineyard stargazing and country stays, while Vicenza itself offers rooftop evenings, museum lates and night walks through the historic centre.

For travellers searching for stargazing in Italy without building an entire trip around a remote dark-sky reserve, Vicenza puts astronomy, mountains, food, wine, architecture and city culture inside one destination.
