Where can you spend an evening in a historic Italian villa?

At Villa Ghislanzoni Curti in Vicenza, the cultural programme has included classical concerts beneath centuries old trees, theatrical guided visits after dark and gatherings devoted to art, architecture and the historic garden. The best known occasion is Notturni d’Estate, “Summer Nocturnes”, a series of chamber music concerts beginning at 9pm. In June 2026, the villa also hosted the inaugural concert of Musica con Vista, Italy’s national festival bringing classical music into historic gardens, villas and palaces. The estate has welcomed other cultural events across the calendar, with special openings and seasonal experiences organised by the family and visiting cultural associations.

MUSIC AFTER DARK

Seven concerts filled the 2026 summer programme, with music by Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Bartók and Philip Glass. The opening of Musica con Vista, performed by Madrid’s Cuarteto Iberia, was part of MERITAcubed, a European cultural project supported by Creative Europe. The concerts have become one of the villa’s most established evening traditions, bringing international musicians and young European ensembles into an eighteenth century Italian garden.

THEATRICAL NIGHTS AND SECRET STORIES

Another reason to watch the villa’s calendar is Benissimo sempre! I segreti di una villa, “Very Well, Always! The Secrets of a Villa”. The theatrical guided visits have offered special evening access to the estate, with performances beginning at 8:30pm in the 2024 edition. The programme returned in 2025, including an early September date. For visitors interested in unusual things to do in Italy at night, these special openings offer a different experience from a conventional historic villa tour.

BEYOND SUMMER

The villa has hosted cultural events in every season, although opening times and formats vary.

In spring, previous programmes have included Il Risveglio del Parco, “The Awakening of the Park”, and an international orchid exhibition with botanical talks and garden visits extending into the early evening.

Autumn has brought Il Festival delle Foglie, “The Festival of Leaves”, guided by an expert arborist and followed by tastings of wine produced on the estate. Architecture and heritage conservation conferences have also been hosted in November. In December 2025, the villa welcomed a late afternoon architectural conference devoted to Guarino Guarini and the restoration of Vicenza’s Santa Maria in Araceli church. These past programmes illustrate the variety of cultural events held at the estate. Most spring and autumn garden visits took place during the day, while the summer concerts and theatrical tours offered dedicated evening experiences.

THE MAGNOLIA PLANTED FOR A WEDDING

The garden has its own nineteenth century love story. 

In 1890, Domenico Curti planted a magnolia to celebrate his marriage. The tree still grows beside the historic villa, among Lebanese cedars, oaks and an avenue of hornbeams already recorded on maps from the Napoleonic period. It is a particularly lovely detail to know before attending a concert or cultural evening in the garden.

NEXT EVENTS AND EVENING OPENINGS

Villa Ghislanzoni Curti organises cultural activities, special openings and private events throughout the year. Public evening access depends on the individual programme. Past editions have included chamber music, theatrical visits, botanical experiences, wine tastings and architectural conferences.
