Walk among tropical butterflies in Vicenza
One of Italy’s largest live tropical butterfly houses, inside a 1,200 m² greenhouse at the foot of Monte Summano.
Inside a 1,200 square metre tropical greenhouse, butterflies from Malaysia, Uganda, the Philippines, Ecuador and Costa Rica fly freely among orchids, tropical plants, insects, birds and koi. Oasi Rossi is in northern Vicenza, around 30 minutes from the city.
Know before you go
The greenhouse is indoors, but this is not best treated simply as a rainy day attraction. The park recommends visiting the butterfly house between 10:00 and 17:00 because the butterflies are most active in daylight and on sunny days.
About
Oasi Rossi is in northern Vicenza, at the foot of Monte Summano, around 30 minutes from Vicenza city.
The park takes its name from Alessandro Rossi, the Schio industrialist who owned the original land, once part of his model agricultural estate.
Today the visitor park covers more than 100,000 square metres. The tropical butterfly house is the main attraction, alongside gardens, picnic areas, children’s play spaces, farm animals, a small train, food service and a garden shop.
The park is managed by Cooperativa Sociale Nuovi Orizzonti, which combines environmental education with social inclusion and employment programmes.

The butterfly house has been part of Oasi Rossi since 1998.
The climate controlled greenhouse recreates a tropical habitat across more than 1,200 square metres, with free flying butterflies, orchids, tropical vegetation, insects, herbivorous birds and koi.
The butterflies arrive as chrysalises from tropical countries including Malaysia, Uganda, the Philippines, Ecuador and Costa Rica.
The 2026 reopening brought a regenerated butterfly house with new orchid displays, multiple butterfly species and the adjoining Gioielli a 6 zampe insect exhibition.
