About
WHY GO
A few minutes from Corso Palladio, pass through the old Dominican complex of Santa Corona and find 500 cinema seats inside a late fifteenth century cloister. From June to early September, this is Cinema sotto le stelle, Cinema Under the Stars, now in its 33rd edition and officially Veneto’s largest open air cinema. In 2026 it ran for 89 evenings, almost three months in which the cloister became a proper summer cinema rather than an occasional heritage venue. Come after dinner, take a seat beneath the old arcades and watch the screen light up where Dominican friars once crossed between the convent buildings.
SPIELBERG, LOCARNO, TORONTO AND A LOT MORE THAN SUMMER BLOCKBUSTERS
The programme is unusually serious for an outdoor arena. The 2026 season opened with four nights of Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, including an original language screening, then moved through Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, restorations of Sergio Corbucci and Pupi Avati, David di Donatello winners, documentaries and films arriving from Locarno and Toronto. Directors, editors and filmmakers also appear in person on selected evenings. So check the calendar before choosing the night. One evening may be a new release, the next a restored Italian classic, the next a national premiere with someone from the film sitting a few rows away.
