European Night of Museums in Vicenza

One euro, six museums, one night in Vicenza

Palladian palaces, contemporary art and €1 admission at each museum

Vicenza’s European Night of Museums shared its 2026 evening with the city’s jazz festival, bringing music into palace courtyards while the galleries remained open. Visitors could explore Palladio’s architecture, contemporary art, jewellery and Venetian painting, with performances along Corso Palladio and in the courtyards of three participating museums. Admission cost €1 at each of the six venues. For a visitor, the appeal was the chance to spend an evening among the collections while also taking part in the cultural life of the streets outside.

About

WHY GO

For one Saturday in May, Vicenza makes museum hopping almost indecently easy. From 6pm, admission is €1 at each participating museum, with five addresses open until 10pm and the Gallerie d’Italia continuing until midnight. Start with Palladio at Palazzo Barbarano, cross Corso Palladio for Venetian painting at Palazzo Chiericati, climb the medieval Torrione di Porta Castello for contemporary art at Fondazione Coppola, then head back towards Piazza dei Signori for the Jewellery Museum inside the Basilica Palladiana. Dinner can wait a little.

SAVE THE BAROQUE PALACE FOR LAST

From 8pm to midnight, Palazzo Leoni Montanari stays open with its Russian icons, eighteenth century Venetian painting, Arturo Martini and temporary exhibitions. In 2026, free guided visits left at 9, 10 and 11pm, crossing the palace’s exuberant Baroque rooms before reaching the extraordinary Caduta degli angeli ribelli, a marble composition of sixty tumbling figures carved from a single block of Carrara marble. So the sensible final museum of the night is also the one with the most theatrical interior.

AND THERE IS JAZZ BETWEEN THE MUSEUMS

The 2026 edition coincided with Vicenza Jazz. From 6pm, the Funkasin Street Band played along Corso Palladio and inside the courtyards of Palazzo Chiericati, Palazzo Barbarano and Palazzo Leoni Montanari. Which gives the evening a particularly good geography: paintings, Palladio, jewellery and contemporary art inside, brass and percussion waiting in the courtyards outside.
