CONCERT NIGHTS IN PALLADIO’S FIRST VILLA
In Lugo di Vicenza, north of Vicenza in Veneto, Italy, autumn brings live music and theatre into Villa Godi Malinverni’s salone d’onore, its principal reception hall. Take your seat beneath Battista Zelotti’s frescoes: Alexander the Great, Darius of Persia and mythological figures cover the walls around the performance. Le Arti in Villa is the annual autumn series held here. [1][2] This is Palladio’s first securely documented architectural work, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto. An evening concert gives you time inside a room you might otherwise cross during a daytime visit. [3][4]
JAZZ, BATTIATO AND MOLIÈRE
The 2026 programme moves between jazz songs, Italian songwriting, spoken theatre and contemporary dance. The Zuccato Jazz Quartet brings voice, saxophone, guitar and double bass; the Franco Battiato tribute adds piano, accordion, percussion and narration. Molière’s Le intellettuali brings French comedy into the same frescoed setting. Choose the performance as carefully as the building: jazz and dance offer different evenings from a play or a tribute built around Italian lyrics and spoken passages. [5]
FAMILY FEUDS ON THEIR OWN STAGE
The villa’s former owners also supply the drama. The 2026 production Terre di sangue e vento d’amore explores the rivalry between the Godi and Piovene families, with theatre and dance performed at the Godi residence itself. [5] Earlier productions explored darker local folklore. La rossa luce nel pozzo combined costume, narration, live music and dance around Marzio Godi and the legend of a well lined with blades. That story belongs to the villa’s theatrical past; its return depends on the programme. [1]
A VISCONTI FILM LOCATION
There is another performance to remember while you are here. Luchino Visconti filmed scenes from Senso at the villa in 1953, with Alida Valli and Farley Granger. In its journey through Palladio’s Veneto, Le Monde recalls those scenes behind the tall doors of the frescoed rooms. [6]
