About

Al Vecchio Libro has been open since 1995 and specialises in antiquarian and out-of-print books, old prints and curiosities. Its catalogue runs across art, architecture, ceramics, sculpture, history, literature, science and botany, with particular attention to Vicenza and the surrounding territory.

THE STORY

Bassano was once one of Europe’s great printing towns. Between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, the Remondini family built what the city museum describes as Europe’s largest printing house, producing books, decorated papers, popular prints, games and optical views that travelled far beyond Italy.

Al Vecchio Libro keeps that paper history within easy reach. Its catalogue contains thousands of antiquarian and out of print titles on art, architecture, ceramics, literature, science, botany and travel, alongside old maps and prints. The current catalogue even includes sixteenth century books, plus a large section devoted to local history.

The Remondini material is the reason to browse slowly. You may find original or later Remondini prints, old views of Bassano, decorative engravings, maps and books connected with the city’s long publishing history. One current catalogue example is an eighteenth century Remondini optical view printed around 1770.
