Know before you go
Plan your swim around the summer lido’s opening calendar. Check the weather, current admission prices and availability of sunloungers before setting out.
Where can you swim in Vicenza’s mountains?
Laghetto Lonaba, also known as Laghetto di Roana, has a designated summer bathing area on the Asiago Plateau in the province of Vicenza, Veneto. Woodland borders the shore, while the seasonal lido provides sunloungers, parasols and lifeguard supervision during opening hours. For a summer holiday in northern Italy, it puts a lake swim and an afternoon among the trees on the same itinerary.
A lake day with children, or an afternoon for two
Families can combine time in the water with the lido’s play area and a walk beside the lake. For couples, a book, two sunloungers and an occasional swim make a persuasive plan for the afternoon. There is room in the day for a stroll along the woodland edge, with the water and its reflections beside you.
The lakeside setting also makes Lonaba worth visiting outside the swimming season. Come for a walk, photographs and time outdoors, with suitable footwear and an eye on the mountain weather.
What is a biolake?
Lonaba is an artificial lake whose bathing section was designed with natural water purification. Planted regeneration areas help filter the water, the principle behind the Italian word “biolago”. A pedestrian causeway divides the bathing section from the adjoining ornamental basin.
Can you swim at Laghetto Lonaba all year?
Swimming follows the summer lido’s opening calendar and local conditions. Use the designated bathing area during authorised opening hours, and check the current dates, admission prices and sunlounger availability before travelling.
A word from the Cimbrian layer of the plateau, connected to Tyrolean and Old High German forms. It names the moss on the trunks.
