THE HILL OF THE WIND HAS AN OLDER NAME
Malga Col del Vento literally means Mountain Dairy on the Hill of the Wind. In the ancient Cimbrian language once spoken on Vicenza's Asiago Plateau, the hill was known as Bint Ekkele. The name is wonderfully literal. The mountain dairy occupies a windy hill overlooking the landscape of the Seven Communities, the historic mountain territory where Cimbrian, a language of Germanic origin, was spoken for centuries. Even the village of Cesuna has its Cimbrian name, Kan-Züne. Today, the Sartori family runs the malga, a traditional Italian mountain farm associated with grazing animals and cheesemaking. Stefano Sartori trained as a cheesemaker, while Roberta is a qualified equestrian guide. The property also offers guest accommodation, horse riding and access to the old paths crossing the plateau. Visitors can approach from Cesuna or follow the historic Old Railway Trail from Asiago, making the mountain dairy an address worth discovering beyond the evening's concert.
A SATURDAY NIGHT AT A MOUNTAIN DAIRY
On Saturday 24 October 2026, Malga Col del Vento in Cesuna di Roana, in the mountains of Vicenza, welcomes musician Ciccio Corona for a live performance as part of its Autumn at the Mountain Dairy dinner series. The evening's menu pairs a pulled pork sandwich with SS46, a craft beer produced by Birrone in Isola Vicentina. A Bavarian style Helles with 4.8% alcohol, SS46 is known for its malty character and gentle hop bitterness.
