Embroidering stars on vintage postacards of Vicenza

A unique embroidery workshop inside a former Italian church, where vintage photographs of Vicenza acquire stitched stars and moons before joining a collective art exhibition.

Old postcards of Vicenza are getting a rather unexpected addition: embroidered constellations. On 29 October 2026, the free Memoria di Stelle workshop invites visitors to stitch stars and moons onto vintage images of the city, inside a former church in Vicenza's historic Borgo Porta Nova. The finished pieces will be exhibited together in December, making this an unusual creative experience for lovers of embroidery, vintage photography and Italy's lesser known cultural addresses.

AN ART WORKSHOP INSIDE A FORMER CHURCH

The venue is AB23, the former Church of Saints Ambrogio and Bellino in Vicenza's historic Borgo Porta Nova district. Now a cultural space for exhibitions, performances and creative workshops, the building is part of Porta Nova Meets, a programme bringing contemporary cultural activities into historic buildings and streets of Vicenza. For anyone interested in embroidery, textile art, vintage postcards or hands on creative experiences in Italy, the workshop offers an opportunity to work with images of Vicenza itself, rather than simply admire them.

A CONSTELLATION OVER OLD VICENZA

An old photograph of a street, a needle and a few embroidered stars. At Memoria di Stelle, meaning Memory of Stars, participants add contemporary embroidery to vintage postcards of Vicenza, stitching moons and celestial motifs directly onto images of the city. The two hour workshop is organised by Come un Incantesimo as part of Creative Constellations, a programme of participatory textile art. The completed postcards will be brought together for a collective exhibition in December 2026.
