Why Do Olive Trees Grow at the Foot of the Alps?
Pove del Grappa lies at the southern foot of Monte Grappa, where sunny slopes and shelter from the surrounding mountains create favourable conditions for olive trees.
This particular landscape is known as the Conca degli Olivi, the Basin of Olive Trees, and contains more than 20,000 cultivated olive trees. For travellers accustomed to associating Italian olive oil with Tuscany, Puglia or the Mediterranean coast, the olive groves of Vicenza offer a different perspective on Italy's agricultural heritage. The cultivated landscape forms part of a longstanding local olive oil tradition, with small groves and terraces extending across the slopes above the Brenta Valley.
The Conca degli Olivi
Olive cultivation has become an important part of Pove del Grappa's local identity.
The village belongs to the Italian Città dell'Olio, the national network of municipalities committed to protecting and promoting olive growing landscapes, traditional cultivation and olive oil culture. The local olive groves also produce extra virgin olive oil associated with the Veneto PDO production area. The 2026 National Olive Grove Walk celebrates Italy's remarkable diversity of olive varieties under the theme Radici d'Italia, or Roots of Italy.
Pove del Grappa takes part with three walking routes designed for different levels of fitness, allowing visitors to discover the hills, olive trees and autumn landscape.
