STARGAZING & NIGHT HIKES IN VICENZA
Chase the perseids, Italy’s “tears of San Lorenzo”, by e bike or on foot
Where to see the Perseids in Italy: by e-bike or on foot in Vicenza
In Italy, the Perseids are known as the Tears of San Lorenzo. Two guided routes in the Vicenza mountains pair the meteor shower with an e-bike ride or a night walk through the forest.

About
THE STORY
THE STORY
Every August, the Perseids cross the summer sky. In Italy they are traditionally known as the Lacrime di San Lorenzo, the Tears of San Lorenzo, after the saint celebrated on 10 August, although the astronomical peak usually falls a little later. In 2026, NASA placed the peak on the night of 12 to 13 August.
On the Asiago Plateau, the mountain highland north of Vicenza, two guided experiences offered very different ways of watching them in 2026.
On the remote eastern side of the Plateau, Valmaron lies at around 1,400 metres above Enego, facing the open high country of the Marcesina Plain. Guided evening e bike rides leave Rifugio Valmaron and follow forest roads, mountain tracks, pastures and clearings chosen away from artificial light. The ride pauses at panoramic points for the Perseids, with some editions adding a packed dinner prepared by the refuge. The route is graded intermediate, and you can usually join with your own e bike or hire one there.
Camporovere is almost the opposite experience. This small mountain village is only about 3 km north of Asiago, at 1,057 metres. Guided night walks leave around sunset and head into the surrounding forest on foot. As daylight disappears, the focus shifts to owl calls, nocturnal forest sounds, mountain silhouettes and finally the Perseids overhead.
WHY GO
For one meteor shower, but two completely different Plateau nights: e bike through high pastures and forest roads at Valmaron, or walk into the woods from Camporovere and listen for owls before the sky takes over.
THE TWO 2026 EXPERIENCES
BY E-BIKE
The 2026 Perseids ride left Rifugio Valmaron on 12 August at 18:30 and returned around 22:30. The intermediate route crossed forest roads, mountain tracks, pastures and clearings, with stops for the meteor shower and a packed dinner prepared by the refuge.
The 2026 price was €75 including e-bike rental, guide and dinner, or €35 with your own e-bike. Booking was required.
ON FOOT
The Camporovere night walk took place on 13 August 2026 from 20:30 to 23:00. The route began at sunset, continued through the forest after dark and combined the Perseids with owl calls and the nocturnal life of the woods.
The 2026 price was €10, free for children under 15, with advance booking required.
2026 edition concluded, check the official sources for 2027 dates.

DIRECTIONS
VALMARON
From Asiago, drive east across the Plateau through Gallio towards Enego, then climb towards Valmaron and the Marcesina highlands. Rifugio Valmaron is about 12 km above Enego, overlooking the Marcesina area. Leave the car at the refuge, where the guided ride begins.
CAMPOROVERE
From central Asiago, drive north for about 3 km towards Roana. Camporovere is the small mountain village immediately above Asiago. Night walks use a meeting point announced with each event, because the forest route can change with weather and trail conditions.
Old Vicenza had a word for fireflies. It sits beside the local words for gleaming and brightness in an 1876 dictionary.
