A HUNGARIAN MUSIC MASTER, IN VICENZA.
Zoltán Kodály believed music education should begin nine months before a child's mother was born. Now Hungarian conductor Bence Juhász brings his UNESCO recognised musical philosophy to Vicenza, with singing workshops for children and teenagers, and a masterclass exploring how to hear music in your head.

A HALLOWEEN BIG TOP, WITH GIANT SOAP BUBBLES.
Three somersaults in midair before catching a flying trapeze. That was Cesare Togni’s speciality. The circus bearing his name is in Vicenza for Halloween, with jugglers, hula hoops, giant soap bubbles and trick or treating before the show.

MOZART'S MAGIC FLUTE. INSIDE PALLADIO'S 1585 THEATRE.
In October 1791, Mozart wrote to his wife Constanze about a little prank he had played during a performance of his own Magic Flute. He had slipped backstage and begun playing Papageno’s magic bells at the wrong moments, until Emanuel Schikaneder, the opera’s librettist and original Papageno, lost patience and shouted “Shut up!” The audience burst into laughter. Some 235 years later, Iván Fischer, one of the world’s most celebrated conductors and founder of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, brings Mozart’s mischievous masterpiece to Palladio’s Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza.

A French convent accused a priest of putting the Devil inside its nuns. Three centuries later, Ken Russell made a film so controversial that his intended version remained unseen by the public for 55 years. Fresh from its 2026 Cannes premiere, The Devils, starring Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave, comes to Vicenza's Cinema Odeon, restored in 4K and screening in its original English.

Fifty years of secret love letters between a French ambassador and a princess. Then the ambassador is found murdered, and Maigret discovers thousands of letters that could explain everything. Based on Georges Simenon's detective fiction, Pascal Bonitzer's 2026 film makes a deliciously scandalous Tuesday morning at Vicenza's Cinema Odeon, screening at 10:30.

Napoleon spent two nights in this palazzo in Italy’s Vicenza Province. Today, its frescoed rooms house an independent bookshop run by three sisters. A Russian director in exile, a film shot in Latvia, a Grand Prix at Cannes. Inspired by Claude Chabrol’s The Unfaithful Wife, Andrey Zvyagintsev’s Minotaur follows a wealthy businessman who suspects his wife of adultery while being ordered to send his employees to war. A NIGHT OF BRITISH PSYCHEDELIC POETRY.
Did you know Jim Morrison named The Doors after a book by British writer Aldous Huxley? Literature and psychedelic rock have a long love affair. THE NEWLY ATTRIBUTED TIEPOLO FRESCO IN A COUNTRY VILLA.
When the King of Spain asked Tiepolo to decorate his royal palace, the painter tried to refuse. The king was so determined to have him that he enlisted the Venetian authorities. Now, in Italy’s Vicenza Province, Villa Cornaro, once the summer residence of a powerful Venetian family, is celebrating the recent attribution of its chapel frescoes to Giambattista Tiepolo and his son Giandomenico. Every last Friday of the month, cyclists take over the streets of Vicenza for Critical Mass. He wanted to become a comedian. Instead, Ryuseigun Saionji founded BBBBBBB, a Japanese band whose chaotic performances have caught the attention of The Japan Times and The Wire. At 104, Elda imagined heaven as a potato field, complete with her mother's little stool and the scent of Angelo, the man she loved. Did you know Black Sabbath took their name from an Italian horror film? Mario Bava's 1963 I tre volti della paura, starring Boris Karloff, inspired the name of Ozzy Osbourne's legendary band. On 30 October, the music comes back to Italy's Vicenza Province, where Sabbathology perform a live tribute to Black Sabbath and Ozzy at Birreria Anima. For its fifth edition, Vicenza's Corso Fogazzaro Halloween party brings magicians, stilt walkers, fantasy characters and street food into the neighbourhood. Children can join a fancy dress bicycle parade from 4 pm, while DJ sets, face painting and a magic show keep the festivities going into the evening.

Goethe once stayed here. Giandomenico Tiepolo painted Venetian carnival revellers on the walls. On Halloween afternoon, Villa Valmarana ai Nani in Vicenza welcomes cellist Enrico Maderni and pianist Mauro Dalla Massara for an intimate concert of Schumann and Grieg. SALEM. HALLOWEEN FOR GROWN UPS IN A REAL ITALIAN CASTLE.
The witches entertain the children in the afternoon. After dark, the castle belongs to the adults. On Halloween night, Castello di Thiene, in Italy's Vicenza Province, hosts Salem, a 35 minute immersive horror experience where visitors enter the story themselves. Small groups, frightening encounters and centuries old rooms provide the setting for an evening designed for those who enjoy being properly scared.

What happens inside an Italian art museum after everyone has gone home? On Halloween night, Vicenza's Palazzo Chiericati opens its doors to just 20 young visitors, aged 6 to 11. Armed with torches, they explore the darkened galleries, search for mysterious figures among the statues and create their own mythological monsters. HALLOWEEN DINNER AT A MOUNTAIN REFUGE.
Pack a Halloween costume and an overnight bag. At Rifugio Campomulo, in the mountains of Italy’s Vicenza Province, dinner means pumpkin risotto with Asiago cheese, Rotzo potatoes and Hungarian beef goulash. There’s dancing after dinner, face painting for children and the option to spend the night at the refuge. The next morning, wake up on the Asiago Plateau, with breakfast and mountain air on the menu.
