THE STORY ↓
An eighteenth century villa, ten guest rooms and an olive grove overlooking the valley of Lake Fimon. Locanda degli Ulivi, in Arcugnano, Vicenza, brings together several pleasures of the Italian countryside: a weekend brunch on the panoramic terrace, a restaurant using its own extra virgin olive oil and the possibility of staying overnight.
The villa stands in the Colli Berici, the limestone hills of northern Italy where vineyards share the landscape with olive groves. The olive oil served in the restaurant is produced by the property itself.
For visitors looking for a breakfast with a view in Italy, the locanda offers something beyond a continental hotel buffet: a separate weekend brunch programme, available by reservation, with four menus including homemade pastries, savoury dishes and Italian coffee.
THE OLIVE OIL · A LITTLE KNOWN ITALIAN TRADITION ↓
How far north in Italy can olive trees grow?
The hills of Vicenza belong to one of northern Italy's historic olive growing territories. Sheltered slopes and favourable exposure allow Mediterranean olive cultivation in a region better known internationally for its wines.
The tradition has official recognition. Veneto Euganei e Berici DOP is a protected designation for extra virgin olive oil produced according to specific geographical and production requirements, including the use of Leccino and Rasara olives.
Local olive oil is known for its green gold colour, fruity aroma, pleasant bitterness and peppery finish. The Berici tradition has historical roots dating back centuries, long before olive oil tourism became a contemporary travel interest.
At Locanda degli Ulivi, the link is particularly immediate: the restaurant uses the extra virgin olive oil produced from its own olive grove.
Its individual olive varieties and any DOP certification have not been publicly established, so visitors interested in these details should ask the property directly.
THE WEEKEND BRUNCH ↓
Saturday and Sunday mornings, from 10 am until noon, are dedicated to brunch. The published programme offers four menus.
CONTINENTAL · €25
Scrambled eggs with bacon, Italian cured meats and cheeses, toasted rye bread, homemade preserves, pancakes with honey or hazelnut cream, red berry cheesecake and yogurt with fresh fruit.
PRIMAVERA · €25
Marinated salmon with black sesame and avocado, toasted rye bread with a fried egg and bacon, pancakes, apple strudel and fresh fruit salad.
VEGETARIAN · €25
Field herb quiche, French toast with guacamole and feta, pancakes, blueberry muffins and fresh fruit salad.
EXTRALARGE · €33
A larger brunch combining marinated salmon, cured meats, cheeses, focaccia, rye bread, a made to order omelette, pancakes, fruit salad and red berry cheesecake.
Coffee or cappuccino, juice and water are included in the published menus.
The terrace makes these weekend mornings especially appealing in fine weather. Reservations are recommended, and prices and individual dishes should be confirmed before visiting.
FROM THE ORCHARD ↓
There is another appealing detail in the villa's breakfast.
According to the property's own description, its breakfast buffet includes homemade bread and preserves, pastries prepared in house and seasonal fruit gathered from its trees.
Cherries, figs, persimmons and blackberries are among the fruits grown on the property.
These are familiar Italian countryside flavours, but they acquire a particular meaning when the fruit trees, olive grove and breakfast table all belong to the same place.
Hotel guests can also enjoy the regular breakfast buffet, with local cheeses and cured meats, eggs cooked to order, Italian coffee and homemade cakes.
THE KITCHEN · OLIVES, GAME & VENETO RECIPES ↓
The restaurant serves dinner during the week and lunch on Sundays, with homemade pasta, traditional dishes and a menu that extends beyond the region's usual repertoire.
The 2026 menu published on TheFork includes pasta e fagioli alla veneta, the traditional Veneto pasta and bean soup, and tagliatelle with duck ragù.
A previously published restaurant menu also features rabbit rolled with olives from the Colli Berici, bigoli al salmì di cinghiale, the thick traditional Veneto pasta served with a rich wild boar sauce, and a selection of local cured meats.
The menu also includes regional preparations such as pastissada de caval, a slow cooked horse meat stew associated particularly with Verona, served with polenta.
For visitors curious about Italian regional food, the most interesting request is to ask which dishes use the property's olive oil and which local ingredients are currently in season.
The restaurant publishes a wine selection with an emphasis on Veneto producers.
THE ANCIENT LAKE ↓
The view from Locanda degli Ulivi extends across the valley of Lake Fimon.
The lake has a history considerably older than the villa. Archaeological investigations in the Fimon valleys have documented human settlements from the Neolithic and Bronze Age, including timber structures associated with ancient lakeside communities.
The Italian Ministry of Culture records evidence of prehistoric habitation at several sites around Fimon. Finds from these communities are also represented in the Natural History and Archaeological Museum of Vicenza.
Today, the valley offers an attractive landscape for walking and nature excursions, with the lake approximately six kilometres from the locanda by the route indicated on its website.
It makes an interesting addition to a weekend breakfast or overnight stay, particularly for travellers exploring the landscape and early history of the Vicenza hills.
STAY & CELEBRATE ↓
Locanda degli Ulivi occupies a villa described by the property as dating to the eighteenth century. Its ten rooms offer accommodation for guests who want to spend more than a morning in the hills.
The villa also hosts private celebrations, dinners and weddings. The management advertises civil wedding ceremonies under an arrangement with the Municipality of Arcugnano, with a panoramic terrace and olive grove for the reception.
For longer stays, the property publishes offers linked to cycling, golf and seasonal countryside holidays.
