About
Ice hockey has been part of Asiago life since 1935, when the first local players trained outdoors on natural ice. Almost a century later, Asiago is one of the historic names of Italian hockey. At Pala Hodegart in Asiago, in the mountains of Vicenza, visitors can watch Italian ice hockey and join public skating sessions on the team’s home rink. Asiago won its ninth Italian championship in January 2026, beating Ritten 8–3 in Milan. Back home, the arena gives a mountain holiday a sporting appointment worth planning around.
Watch a home game in an Italian hockey town
Asiago’s hockey tradition began in 1935, with players training on natural ice. Today, a home game puts you among the local supporters beneath the Hodegart’s broad timber roof, following a club whose history spans generations. For an evening out on the Asiago Plateau, check HC Asiago’s fixture list and choose a home game. Buy through the club’s official ticket page, where prices depend on the fixture and seating area. You may also see the arena called Odegar, a commonly used variant of Hodegart.
Can visitors skate on the same rink?
Yes. Public skating takes place in separately scheduled sessions, with skate hire available at the arena. Look for “pattinaggio aperto al pubblico” on the weekly timetable, the Italian wording for public skating. This makes the rink useful for a family outing, a rainy afternoon in Asiago or a winter holiday with activities beyond skiing. Check the session before setting out, since matches, training and public skating share the ice. Bring warm layers even when the weather outside is mild.
Bonus: walk to the lake where Asiago hockey began
In daylight, add Laghetto Lumera, the small natural lake reached on foot from Asiago’s centre. Its frozen surface hosted the town’s early hockey games. The club’s history recalls an even earlier generation skating with steel blades attached to their boots, before proper equipment arrived from Milan. Today, the lakeside walk follows a pedestrian path between fields, with benches and a playground beside the water. For hockey fans, it adds a visit to the sport’s local birthplace to an evening at the arena.
